Located at the mouth of a river as it opens to the Bay, the Solstice House is shifted in plan to allow its main spaces to look out over the horizon and summer solstice. An exterior stair along the river leads to the partially shaded roof terrace that offers distant views out to the barrier islands. A laminated cypress pergola shades the lower part of the terrace. The 28 feet long cypress beams span across the entire width of house and penetrate through the massing of the elevator tower.
